Extra Virgin Organic Olive Oil from Majorca
Looking into the past
Mallorca, throughout the centuries until nowadays has been recognized as one of the places in the Mediterranean with the appropriate climate and qualities for the making of a high quality virgin olive oil. The Majorcan olive oil was already being exported in the 13th century, in the time of the Crown of Aragon.
Organic agriculture
Now after 8 years, by basing the cultivation solely on respect for the land and the environment, we have achieved our objective of an entirely organically produced Extra Virgin Olive Oil and can proudly present our product. Our plantation is in harmony with its surrounding flora and fauna. Natural vegetation prevents soil erosion and supports the life cycles of beneficial insects.
Our short story
In 2008 the Mas Llull family realised that there was a niche in the Extra Virgin Olive Oil market which could be filled with a new high quality product, the result of a greater understanding of the extraction of the oil from the olive. The latter having been the basis of Mediterranean cuisine for many centuries.
Our olive oil
Like wine, each year the produced oil differs slightly from each other according to the weather conditions experienced in the growing season. Colour: Pale, yellowy green opaque in appearance because it is unfiltered
Our farm
The 16th century Finca, Son Elsebitx, is situated on the outskirts of Petra in the eastern part of Mallorca. This area of the island has retained its flourishing, traditional Mallorquin agriculture. Until the beginning of the 20th century wine production was prevalent but this was adversely affected by Phylloxera. Son Elsebitx has been a working farm in the Mas Llull family for over 150 years. Now 25 hectares of the original farm is dedicated to olive growing.
The cultivar grown, Arbequina, is well adapted to growing on poorer soils and gives a high yield of small, round fruits. These olives produce a smooth, intensively fruity oil.
